Our Story — Recognizing New York's Greatest in Baseball
The New York State Baseball Hall of Fame was founded in 2010 by Rene M. LeRoux in tribute to his friend and World Series Champion, Johny Podres, a Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher and upstate New York native. What began as the Upstate New York Baseball Hall of Fame expanded in 2012 to recognize contributions from across the entire state.
Rene hosted the Hall’s first induction dinner in 2011 with MLB great Lee Mazzilli and his son Jack LeRoux. In July 2023, the Hall officially opened its museum in Gloversville, New York, across from historic Parkhurst Field.
A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER
Rene LeRoux
When I founded the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame, the vision was to honor people, honor the game of baseball, and to create a vision for everyone to celebrate baseball in New York State. Honoring a new inductee class every year brings together families, friends, and lovers of the game. We tell a story about their journey, their lives in the game, and their contributions on and off the field. Those contributions tell a story at every level. Baseball in New York State goes back to the 1860s when the Troy Highlanders were a major league team (becoming the New York Giants, now the San Francisco Giants). The games were played not far from where our induction dinners are held.
On every level, from tee ball to the major leagues, baseball is interwoven into our very fabric. Over 150 years later, baseball is still the American sport. Baseball brings us together—in the backyard, at the ballpark, at the HOF in Gloversville, New York. As we move into the future, I wish to thank everyone who has helped my journey and my Hall of Fame journey become a reality. As we continue to grow, our vision is clear: Honoring wonderful people, honoring the game. Hearing the induction speeches each year makes it all the more fulfilling. The inductees are the ones who make the HOF great. Amen.
